Marshall-Tufflex’s Mono 10 and Bendex dado trunking systems have been installed in a new secondary school in Hertfordshire. The robust, trunking solutions helped electrical contractor Halsion meet the needs of the building and its occupants.
Newly built, the school has capacity for up to 1200 pupils aged 11 to 18 and lies on the edge of a busy historic town in Hertfordshire. The school features a wide range of educational and sports facilities designed to give children an engaging educational experience.
A key part of ensuring the new school met the needs of the students and staff was the correct specification and installation of the data and power infrastructure throughout the learning spaces and staff areas. At the tender stage of the project, Halsion, which was awarded the contract for the building services installation, specified the Marshall-Tufflex products.
We were familiar with the Marshall-Tufflex products, having used them on a number of previous projects. When we looked at the requirements for the project, which called for a three compartment, Cat 7 compliant chamfered profile trunking, it was clear that Bendex dado was an ideal solution.
However, there were areas of the building where space for the trunking was restricted. As we wanted a single source of supply, we looked at the smaller trunking solutions offered by Marshall-Tufflex and selected the single compartment Mono 10 product to solve this challenge while still delivering the cable capacity required.
The Bendex dado trunking is a cost-effective solution for educational facilities and has three segregated compartments that enable efficient separation of cables with individual lids on each section for easy access. The Mono 10 trunking, which measures 100 x 50mm, is a single compartment product but can be subdivided for easy cable separation. For this project, the compact size enabled the trunking to be installed below windowsills and still allow desks to be placed against the wall. Both products are compliant with data cables up to Cat 7a, ensuring there is no loss of data capacity on the high speed, high bandwidth cables.
Additionally, with sustainability now a key consideration for all organisations, the use of products manufactured from recycled material was important. Bendex dado and Mono 10 trunking are manufactured from 53% and 70% recycled material respectively.
The Marshall-Tufflex systems were easy to install and with the wide range of components, it was simple to fit the trunking in all areas of the building to deliver the required infrastructure across the school campus.
This exciting secondary school project shows why Bendex dado trunking and Mono 10 are so popular in educational developments. They meet all the most common requirements, such as Cat 7 compliance and recycled content, and are still affordable, even if budgets are under pressure.
