Investing in our Tool Room

We’re continuing to invest in our UK manufacturing capabilities with the installation of two new CNC machines in our toolroom, marking another important milestone in our wider manufacturing investment programme.

The new equipment includes a vertical machining centre, which enables us to manufacture complex, precision-engineered components, and a CNC lathe for producing accurate cylindrical components, tooling and repair parts.

Together, these machines significantly increase our in-house toolmaking capabilities, giving our engineering team greater flexibility to manufacture, maintain and repair the tooling that supports our production operations.

For us, this investment is about much more than adding new machinery. By increasing the amount of work we can undertake in-house, we can improve machining accuracy and repeatability, reduce lead times for tooling manufacture and repairs, and respond more quickly to the changing requirements of our production teams. It will also help us reduce our reliance on external suppliers, giving us greater control over our tooling requirements and helping to keep our manufacturing operations running efficiently.

This is an important investment in the future of our manufacturing operation. Strengthening our in-house toolmaking capability means we can respond more quickly to the needs of production, improve the accuracy and consistency of the components we manufacture, and reduce the time we spend waiting for externally sourced tooling and repairs. Importantly, it’s also an investment in our people. We want to create a modern engineering environment where our team has access to the right technology and where we can continue to develop engineering and toolmaking skills for the future.

Modernising our toolroom

The arrival of the new CNC machines forms part of a much wider transformation of our toolroom. Alongside investing in equipment, we have been reorganising the workspace, improving housekeeping standards and creating a modern, well-organised engineering environment that better supports our people and manufacturing operations. This programme of continuous improvement is helping ensure that our facilities evolve alongside the needs of the business, while providing our engineering team with the tools and working environment they need to do their best work.

Developing skills for the future

Investing in modern manufacturing technology also creates opportunities to strengthen engineering knowledge and skills within Marshall-Tufflex. By combining the experience of our existing team with modern CNC technology, we can continue developing our in-house expertise and provide an environment in which the next generation of engineering and toolmaking talent can learn and grow. For Marshall-Tufflex, it is another step forward in our long-term commitment to British manufacturing, continuous improvement and investing in the people and technology that will support our business for years to come.
